Semester 4 - Builder's Special

The Modest Neoclassical Chateau

A collaborated design with inspiration manifested through stunning molding, clean lines, and a light color palette with black accents -- a minimal design with a timeless effect.

The design proposal if for a young family with two children. They bought the house for its location, which allowed for them to adapt it into a modern classical home which embodies European charm and poise. It was very important to my clients to integrate classical, natural elements with a modern twist. Other elements of black, wrought iron and marble were deep considerations. My choice within the cohesive design in regards to the use of materials and use of rhythm and balance within the principle bath and powder room helps to emphasis the direction of the overall design. In order to create the cohesive space throughout both zones of designs, there was a repetition of clean, smooth, relaxed lines within the millwork. The space was desired to visually have layers, achieved by visual lines and materials.

Principle Bathroom Design

The design inspiration was to be opposed to the powder room, highlighting lighter tones brought through in marble, with black and gold hardware. The design references modern, fresh elegance without going over the top and sticking to modern roots.

As opposed to the darker tones of the powder room, the focus of the ensuite was utilizing the beautiful while marble with hints of black and gold hardware as seen in the shower door & accessories.

Having a tub/shower combination allowed for more of a home spa, the ledge at the end of the tub allows for storage not only within the shower, but space to put a candle or even a drink while slipping into the tub.

One can never have too much storage within a bathroom, just beside the beautiful tub shower, this three shelf unit is custom made for the space and allows quick and easy access for towels.

Connecting between the powder room and the ensuite, the use of half dark marble wall makes a pop of colour and creates a similar vignette and makes the spaces, even though far apart almost as one. The custom vanity showcases matching vessel sinks and mirrors and the sleek hanging pendant lights, with tons of storage in the under section of the vanity.

Powder Room Design

In the Powder Room, we wanted to highlight a darker mood with pops of white and metallic tones, overall bringing out a dynamically relaxed space.  Modern, Classical, Fresh were important inspirational considerations as we moved forward.

Directing your eyes towards the custom vanity, the soft white marble with the built-in sink paired with a large mirror and the hanging pendant lighting allowed for a sophisticated edge. Clean, Slick lines and shapes create a well-balanced and well-functional space. Other such additions that make it unique are the dark grass cloth wallpaper,  the half marble sectional wall, (allowing for painting or plant display.).  Overall, the design gives a relaxed take on a powder room, highlighting a refining elegance, one in which when you walk in, it will make you fall in love with it over and over again.
